Haluski Recipe

I made Haluski for supper last night, and I thought I would share the recipe with you. If you've never had Haluski before, it is a Polish dish that consists of cabbage and noodles. I add onion and bacon to mine to give it some extra flavor. This dish is always a hit with anyone that tries it, even for those that hate cabbage.

  6. I make this quite often (about every 2 wks). My recipe is exactly the same only with slightly different starting ingredients. First, I use sauerkraut that I wash in cold water a couple of times until there is only a hint of the vinegar taste left. Second, I use fatback instead of bacon (using on the white, fat portion, cutting it into tiny cubes, and frying until the cubes get dark tan and slightly crispy). Third, I use pasta shells instead of egg noodles since the other ingredients tend to fill into the shells when you mix everything together and stir. It's a fantastic dish. Oh, I do season the sauerkraut and onion with fresh garlic, pepper, and salt while they're frying in the fatback cubes and the resulting grease.
